Translating SchoolTool.org
Making schooltool.org accessible to non-English readers
If you'd like to translate the SchoolTool application itself, please head over to LaunchPad.net.
Most, but not yet all of the SchoolTool.org website is easily translatable using the LinguaPlone system described below, the news weblog is not currently translatable.
To begin doing translations, first, email Tom Hoffman with a desired account name and the language you're interested in translating content into. He will make an account for you. We're open to adding translations for whatever language you'll translate into, as long as you're willing to translate a reasonable number of pages and keep up with new content.
Next, find something to translate! For example, take this document:
Note that there are a few pages on schooltool.org that currently cannot be transated using this procedure, notably the front page of the site. If you see "Translate into" on some pages, but not others, that is why.
Next, select the language you want to translate into from the appropriate menu. If you don't see this menu, or you are denied permission to continue, you'll need to have your permissions fixed by Tom or another site manager.
Then you should see a form that presents the English text side by side with text boxes for your translations.
Fill out the form and submit your translations, and you should see your new version:
This will be in public draft status. When you want to publish it to the live website, use the menu in the upper right:
All done!
After a translation is done on a page, the available versions are highlighted and the untranslated available languages are appear faded. In this case, English and French versions are available, but there is no Spanish translation yet.
